Demond Raman Sharp
On a glorious July 4th morning in 1973, God saw fit to bless me with a beautiful baby boy...Demond Raman Sharp. This precious bundle of joy was happily received by his big brother Otis who was excited to finally have a playmate. He was nicknamed, “The Cookie Monster” as he loved cookies. Though she tried to hide them, he raided his grandmother’s stash often.
Demond began his elementary education at Myers Elementary School, then advanced to West Jr. High before graduating from Harry S. Truman High School in Taylor, Michigan in 1991.
As children, Demond and Otis were inseparable. Their spiritual growth was nurtured at home and church. Demond accepted Christ as a youth.
After graduation, he attended Wayne County Community College and Spec Howard School of Media Arts. Demond's work history included the United States Postal Service, the City of Detroit in the departments of elections, police and tax collection.
Demond's young adult life was filled with his passion for athletics. As an avid sports fan, he favored the Detroit Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, Lions and the U of M Wolverines.
From an early age, Demond was fascinated with fictional heroes. He acquired a vast comic book collection of over 100 books. This hobby also evolved into a huge Spiderman collection. Demond was a connoisseur of Spiderman memorabilia...you mention it, he had it!
Always in search of a hero, Demond accepted the greatest one of all, Jesus Christ! Demond met all of life's storms and struggles with courage. It was the supernatural strength and power of his Savior that enabled him to courageously fight the battle of cancer since 2014. As an advocate for health care, in 2016 he spoke at Covenant Community Care’s Courage to Care event, he also stood with the mayor of Detroit during a press conference as a champion of quality affordable health care.
Demond's kind spirit was poured out upon children. God gifted him with a special ability to love and embrace them. With this gift, he positively impacted and mentored many youth in his circle.
He also fondly served as a stepbrother and uncle to both his immediate and extended families. These gifts were richly shared, cherished and will be eternally missed.
Demond's big brothers Otis and Ernest as well as his best friend Keith will continue to walk a little taller because of their unique and special bond with our giant.
