Piolet Roy Thompkins, affectionately called Roy by family and friends,
was born December 23, 1948 , to Emanuel and Annie Laura Thompkins in Geneva, Alabama.
Roy was a proud 1967 graduate of Riverside Heights High School in Geneva, Alabama.
In 1971, Roy moved to Detroit where he met and married Beverly Thompkins in 1972.
Their union was blessed with a son Piolet Jr. and Roy took on the role of father to Daryl and
Sean.
Roy had a lifelong career at Serta Mattress Company for over 40 years and retired in 2015. Roy
enjoyed college football and basketball and was an avid fan of University of Michigan.
Roy was a lifetime member , Deacon and Elder of Zion Congregational Church of God in Christ .
Roy was appointed Deacon under Pastor Wiggins in 1985 and became an Elder under Pastor
Jeffrey in 1995. He was a dedicated servant of God and served as Treasurer at the church and
fulfilled other duties such as collecting offerings.
Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly Thompkins; parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Emanuel Thompkins; one sister, Hattie Mae Elder; and two brothers, William Henry Thompkins and
Theo L. Williams.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory: three sons, Daryl (Renee) Barnes, Sean (Therese)
Thompkins, and Piolet Thompkins Jr.; five grandchildren , Demetrius, Clarissa, Paris,
Rendale, and Leah; one sister, Blanch (Nathaniel) Dowdell of Auburn, AL; one uncle, Horace Johnson,
Sr. of Hillsborough, NC; a host of niece s, nephews, great nieces, cousins and friends.
