Mary E. Dudley
February 11, 1932 ~ February 8, 2024 (age 91) 91 Years Old
In Montgomery, Alabama, on February 11, 1932, Ella Mae Golston was born to John Henry and Janie Green Golston. In 1943, she and her family, including her parents and ten siblings, relocated to Detroit, Michigan. There, Ella Mae changed her name to Mary Ella Golston.
Mary Ella and her siblings attended Miller Intermediate High School in the formerly known 'Black Bottom' area, now recognized as Lafayette Park. She married Alphonzo Dudley on April 7, 1951, and they had two sons, Gary Wayne and Darryl Dudley.
Mary Ella had a natural calling to serve others. Throughout her career, she worked at Eastside General Hospital, and Holy Cross Hospital, and ultimately retired from Bi-County Hospital in 1996. In 1949, she joined New Calvary Baptist Church in Detroit, where she actively served on the usher board and participated in Vacation Bible School.
Over the years, Mary Ella found joy in mentoring and guiding younger generations. She often assisted her grandchildren in caring for their children.
Mary Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonzo, her youngest son, Darryl, and all of her ten siblings. Surrounded by her family, she peacefully transitioned from this life on the evening of Thursday, February 8, 2024.
Mary Ella's legacy lives on through her son, Gary Dudley, daughter-in-law La Nette Dudley, and a large extended family, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The family expresses gratitude and honorable mention to Betty Joyce, Mr. Robert Rucker for maintaining consistent contact, and Sonya Flemons for always looking out for Mary. Their unwavering support and love are deeply appreciated.
