Malcom Smith, Sr. Obituary

Malcom Sr. was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 26, 1965, to the late James Worth and the late
Thelma Smith. He was educated in the Detroit Public Schools and later continued his studies at
Wayne State University.
In 1993, Malcom began his career with Stellantis, formerly Chrysler, where he worked with
dedication and pride until his illness prevented him from continuing in 2023. In 1996, Malcom
married LaTanya and from this union their two sons were born, Malcom Jr. and Marcellus.
Growing up alongside his brother and father, Malcom developed a lifelong love for board games
and dominoes. This passion followed him everywhere he went. While playing dominoes as a
young man with his father and uncle, his coworkers at the plant affectionately nicknamed him
“Dr. Bones,” a name that stayed with him throughout his life.
Malcom was also an avid bicyclist with a special love for vintage bikes. He built an impressive
collection over the years and looked forward to participating in Detroit’s “Slow Roll” each season.
Known for his generous spirit, Malcom was the person family and friends could always depend
on—whether you needed help fixing a car or simply someone to lean on, he was there without
hesitation.
Malcom leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Malcom Jr. and Marcellus; his sister Felicia; and
his brother Raymond (Retonia). He is also survived by aunts, an uncle, nephews, a niece, many
cousins, and two brothers for life, Fred Harris and Vassie Knott.
