Obituary

On September 16, 1952, Katherine Mckenzie and Daniel Sr. Mckenzie (deceased father) became the proud parents of a baby boy named Labon Mckenzie. Labon obtained his education at Rolleville All Age School in Nassau, Bahamas. After completing high school Labon worked at several hotels in Nassau as a chef. He was an excellent chef and any task that he was given was always handled in a timely manner and ALWAYS with a smile! Labon spent time in Florida and New York before moving to Detroit, Michigan in 1979 where he gained additional skills in the manufacturing industry such as forklift operator, saw operator, material handler, press operator, and shipping/receiving clerk. He was always ready to serve others and perform his jobs in excellence.

“Spy” as he was affectionately called by his close family and friends was one in a million. Everyone that knew him, especially those from his homeland and island could listen for their phone to ring EVERY Sunday, as he would keep in touch with everyone to see how they were doing. Labon had a larger-than-life personality! He was a true family man and will be remembered as a protector, a master chef, especially of traditional Bohemian meals, and he was always up for a good laugh and to bring joy to others.

Labon leaves to cherish his memory is dear mother Katherine Mckenzie; wife Genettie Smith-Mckenzie; son Vacelee Mckenzie (Deirdre); step-daughter Ebony Hamilton (John); grandchildren Tyla Mckenzie, Kori Mckenzie, India Mckenzie, Jayla Hamilton and Jayden Hamilton; brothers Dan Aaron, Daniel Mckenzie, Clayton Mckenzie, Preston Mckenzie, Michael Mckenzie; sisters Katie Mckenzie, and Deaconess Eloise Mckenzie; one uncle Alvin Taylor; one aunt Iggierena Taylor; two sisters-in-law Rosemary Mckenzie and Marvette Mckenzie; 14 nieces and 13 nephews; Pastor Delores Kelly, Islee Muscroft, Audrey Rolle, Cudymae Stuart, Kenneth Nixon, Richard  Balfour, Willard Mckenzie, Edithmae Taylor, Oldin Taylor, General Taylor, Lillian Rolle, Angerine Curtis, The Vero Beach family, Florida family, Sue Gordan, Janet Storr, Deaconess  Helen Knows, Chester Henretta Mckenzie, Irean & David Mckenzie, Ervin Munnings, and the entire Rolleville community at large including all classmates & friends.
