On September 16, 1952, Katherine Mckenzie and Daniel Sr. Mckenzie (deceased father) became the proud parents of a baby boy named Labon Mckenzie. Labon obtained his education at Rolleville All Age School in Nassau, Bahamas. After completing high school Labon worked at several hotels in Nassau as a chef. He was an excellent chef and any task that he was given was always handled in a timely manner and ALWAYS with a smile! Labon spent time in Florida and New York before moving to Detroit, Michigan in 1979 where he gained additional skills in the manufacturing industry such as forklift operator, saw operator, material handler, press operator, and shipping/receiving clerk. He was always ready to serve others and perform his jobs in excellence.
“Spy” as he was affectionately called by his close family and friends was one in a million. Everyone that knew him, especially those from his homeland and island could listen for their phone to ring EVERY Sunday, as he would keep in touch with everyone to see how they were doing. Labon had a larger-than-life personality! He was a true family man and will be remembered as a protector, a master chef, especially of traditional Bohemian meals, and he was always up for a good laugh and to bring joy to others.
