Geraldine McGlocton Obituary

Geraldine Dewberry McGlocton, age 76, was born on October 19, 1948, in Detroit, MI, to the union of the late Purnella and Wesley Williams Sr. She transitioned on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Ascension St. John Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.

Geraldine (known as Jerry) was joined in holy matrimony to the late Alberto James McGlocton on June 15, 1970. This union was blessed with four children: Purnella Aaron, Albert McGlocton, Anthony McGlocton, and Theresa McGlocton.

Jerry attended Washington Elementary, Cleveland Middle, and Pershing High School. In middle school, she served as captain of both the basketball and baseball teams. She later received certification in carpentry and home repair and was employed as a machine operator for Neumann Engineering and Master Pneumatics, from which she retired.

Jerry enjoyed going to garage and estate sales, often taking her grandchildren or anyone who wanted to ride along. She also had a passion for sewing and home repairs—always ready to take in a hemline or help with a project. She loved listening to the Blues, watching Storage Wars, HGTV, and judge shows —which you knew not to interrupt.

Jerry was compassionate, selfless, and a woman of her word. She had a strong love for family and always opened the door of her home to those in need. If there wasn’t room, she made room. She made everyone feel welcome, and you could always stop by on any given weekend for a good meal. During the holidays, her famous sweet potato pies were something everyone looked forward to.

Throughout her life, she was a woman who believed in God. In January 2025, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, through faith, by the leading of her son, Anthony McGlocton.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Jr. and Johnie B., and four sisters: Betty Lou, Ernestine, Rosa Lee, and Jacqueline.

She leaves to cherish her memory four children: Purnella Aaron (Larry), Albert McGlocton (Carla), Anthony McGlocton (Alesia), and Theresa McGlocton; thirteen grandchildren: Chanell (Reginald), Martez, Antoinette, Albert Jr., Nathan (Morgan), Teaira, Porcha, Airon, Patricia, Christopher, Aaron, Jowuan, and Zaire; nine great-grandchildren: Myron, Madison, Mariah, Doraye Jr., Jayden, Myra, Darnell, and Mora. She is also survived by her siblings: one brother, Wesley Williams (Addie); two sisters, Lillie Broadnax (James) and Delores Wright; many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
