Elease Thornton

Elease Thornton,  Born on November 29, 1940, in Oglethorpe, Georgia, to Robert and Georgia Thornton, Elease was the eldest of four children. At two years old, she moved with her parents to Detroit, Michigan, where she would build a life defined by dedication and grace.
Elease was a proud graduate of Pershing High School. She furthered her education at secretarial school, embarking on a remarkable 34-year career as an executive secretary at Homemaker Services of Metropolitan Detroit Caregivers. She retired in 1999, leaving behind a reputation for unparalleled reliability. Known for her reliance on public transportation, it was often joked that Elease traveled more miles on the Detroit Department of Transportation (DOT) than most bus drivers. Through sweltering summers and harsh winters, her commitment never wavered, and she never missed a day of work.
A true "family girl," Elease never married or had children of her own, but she embraced her roles as an aunt with boundless love and devotion. Her nieces and nephews were her "kids," and she helped care for them without a single complaint, making an immeasurable impact on their lives as a role model, mentor, confidant, and friend.
Elease possessed a remarkable ability to soothe difficult situations, always maintaining peace within her family with a consistently positive attitude. She found joy in life's simple pleasures: traveling, visiting loved ones, and attending church. She also had a passion for shopping, always treating herself with a sophisticated flair. Her other pastimes included bowling, playing cards, and cooking, often shared with family and friends.
Elease was preceded in death by her sister, Roberta. She leaves to cherish her memory; brother, Alfred (Janet); her sister, Beverly; nephews Al (Kymm), Ray (Kanitria), Drew, Tyler, Kyal, Marlon; nieces Carla, Joy, Bridget (Mike), LaKeisa (Collette), Jada, A’Kala, Alayna, Ashley. She is also survived by a host of great-nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
